Medical Students Balint Group – Workshop for Group Leaders

A Balint Training Workshop will take place on Thursday 15th June in Sligo Medical Academy, Sligo University Hospital.
This is open to existing Balint leaders, Academy Tutors, SpR’s, GP Registrars and Consultants interested in developing their skills in running Balint groups.
Since January 2023, Balint has been successfully rolled out to all 3rd Year Medical Students in Sligo, Letterkenny, Castlebar and Ballinasloe. Each student was offered the opportunity to participate in a weekly Balint Group for 4-6 weeks. These Balint Groups were facilitated by 2 Leaders- Psych SPRs, Psychiatrists and Academy Tutors. Supervision was provided by 2 Accredited Balint Leaders. Research on the Groups to assess effectiveness was carried out by Dr Ignazio Graffeo.
The purpose of this workshop is twofold;
1) To have an overview of what’s happened since Jan 23 and
2) bring Balint to a wider audience and to encourage participation in this project going forward.
