In order for mental health service users to and providers to prepare for the implementation of the ADM Act on 21 November 2022 and how any new processes will interact with Mental Health Legislation and practice.

 

HSE Mental Health Community Operations are hosting a webinar which will be chaired by Kevin Brady, Head of Mental Health Services CHO 7. The webinar will take place on the 9th November 2022 from 2pm- 3.15pm.

 

The webinar will address the following issues:

– The interaction between the Mental Health Act 2015 and the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015 [Prof Kelly & Prof Donnelly]

– Key changes for mental health practice [Prof Kelly, Prof Donnelly, Ber Grogan]

– Key supports and resources now available for staff [Elaine McCaughey]

– The role and function of the Decision Support Service [Aine Flynn]

 

Speakers will include:

· Brendan Kelly: Professor of Psychiatry, Trinity College Dublin

· Mary Donnelly: Professor of the School of Law, University College Cork

· Bernadette Grogan: Policy & Advocacy Coordinator, Mental Health Reform

· Elaine McCaughley: National Office for Human Rights and Equality Policy

· Áine Flynn: Director of the Decision Support Service

 

As this webinar is focussed on the interface between the ADM and Mental Health Service provision it would be important for attendees to have a level of knowledge about the ADM Act in advance. General resources are available for all staff to prepare for the commencement of the Act which can be found at: www.assisteddecisionmaking.ie   A questions and answers session will be chaired by Kevin Brady, Head of Service, Dublin South, Kildare, West Wicklow. Questions should be submitted in advance to tony.mccusker@hse.ie or can be inputted when registering for this event. The webinar will be also recorded and will be hosted on the mental health learning hub on HSEland for those unable to attend on the day.
