The Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015: Information for Psychiatrists

The two hour session will include:
• Brief information and an overview of the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015
• Legal implications for psychiatry
• Clinical implementation of the Act and its implications for psychiatrists and their patients.
• Questions & Answers with the presenters

Presenters:

• Prof Mary Donnelly, Professor of Law, University College Cork
Mary Donnelly is Professor of Law at University College Cork and has written extensively on capacity related matters. She is Chair of the Multidisciplinary Working Group to develop a Code of Practice on Advance Healthcare Directives and joint Chair of the HSE Assisted Decision-Making Implementation Group.

• Prof Brendan Kelly, Professor of Psychiatry, Trinity College Dublin
Brendan Kelly is Professor of Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin, consultant psychiatrist at Tallaght University Hospital, and author of “Mental Illness, Human Rights and the Law” (2016) and “In Search of Madness: A Psychiatrist’s Travels Through the History of Mental Illness” (2022).

  • Non-CPsychI members: €30 –  Complete and submit the BOOKING FORM as soon as possible to secure your place.
  • Continuous Professional Development Support Scheme (CPD-SS) for NCHDs in Non-Training Posts: A limited number of CPD-SS places are available to NCHDs registered on 2021/22 CPD-SS. To avail of CPD-SS funding, you must book your place in advance by completing and submitting the BOOKING FORM.

Registrants will be emailed a Zoom link shortly before the webinar which will be broadcast live, without delayed access.  The Zoom link will be unique for each registrant and can only be used on one device at a time.  The link will be emailed to the primary email address we have on file for each registrant.  In order for an attendance record to be generated for each webinar for the purposes of issuing CPD certificates, each registrant’s name and primary email address will be input as an attendee on the College’s Zoom account.
