The DotMD Conference took place recently in the Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin. The conference describes itself as a ‘festival of medical curiosity’ and aimed to reconnect the art and humanity of medicine.
Prof Brendan Kelly, professor of psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin and consultant psychiatrist at Tallaght Hospital, used a personal story about a 2am stroll for a bottle of water to discuss suicide, self harm, and the power of adhering to regulations on the sale of paracetamol. Limerick based consultant psychiatrist Dr Paul Reynolds spoke about his life as a psychiatrist and his childhood growing up on the grounds of various mental hospitals. Rounding off his talk, he sang a duet of ‘Help’ by The Beatles with his son on piano. Watch his full talk below:
