Press Statement: College of Psychiatrists of Ireland on Sudan conflict

The College of Psychiatrists of Ireland strongly condemns the conflict that has erupted in Sudan and appeals for a permanent ceasefire to protect its citizens and Irish-based doctors currently in the country.
We support our fellow psychiatrists and psychiatrist trainees and urge all relevant agencies, including the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Irish consulates to/near Sudan, to assist the evacuation from the country of Irish-based doctors and their immediate families.
The College stands in solidarity with the Sudanese people and our medical colleagues in Sudan at this traumatising time and is deeply concerned for the health, including mental health, of those affected.
We are very concerned about the impact of the conflict on the most vulnerable in society such as those with intellectual disabilities and later life illnesses. We also acknowledge the distress currently being felt by our colleagues in Ireland who are from Sudan.
