Consultant – Psychiatry of Old Age

The post-holder will work as one of a number of consultants collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team based at Sheaf House Tallaght. Each Consultant will take responsibility for providing different aspects of the Psychiatry of Later Life service including home-based care, domiciliary assessments, general hospital liaison, integrated care with the gerontology integrated care team, liaison with residential care facilities, in-patient care (Psychiatric Unit TUH), and ECT. There is a strong tradition of consultant delivered care within the service with a focus on delivering care in the person’s home.
The Consultants work collaboratively leading a multidisciplinary team which includes a Higher Specialist Trainee in Old Age Psychiatry, an ANP in liaison Old Age Psychiatry, Community Mental Health Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists in Nursing Home Psychiatry and Integrated Care, a Home-Based treatment Team, Day Hospital nurses, Occupational Therapists, a Mental Health Social Worker, and administrative support. There is a single weekly multidisciplinary team meeting providing a seamless service without intra-team referrals.
The on-call commitment is to the Psychiatric Unit at Tallaght University Hospital (approximately 1:18)
Candidates must be on the specialist register for POA or eligible for same in July 2022.
It is anticipated that a permanent post will be advertised in the coming months.
