Consultant – General Adult Psychiatry

Permanent, Full Time (0.5 inpatient and 0.5 day hospital and OPD)
The appointee will have responsibility for the treatment of general adult psychiatric inpatients alongside the delivery of an outpatient service. The Consultant will work collaboratively leading a multidisciplinary team. This post is recognised as a training post for those in the College of Psychiatry of Ireland Basic Specialist Training (BST) Scheme and will be involved in the teaching and training of undergraduate and post-graduate medical, nursing and clinical personnel. General Adult Psychiatrists with areas of specialised interests may apply.
The successful candidate for this post will play a role in the review and development of the Hospital’s long established general psychiatric and relevant programme(s) in ensuring that services are in keeping with best international practice.
The following professional qualifications and experience shall apply to this appointment:
- Full registration in the General Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland or entitlement to be so registered and
- The possession of the MRCPsych or an equivalent thereto, and
- Inclusion in the division of Psychiatry of the Register of Medical Specialists maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland, or
- Seven years’ satisfactory post – graduate training and experience in the medical profession including five years in Psychiatry of which three years in General Adult Psychiatry.
- A satisfactory knowledge of the administration of psychiatric services including the maintenance of clinical governance and contributions to programme developments
- Possess a high standard of professional attainment and the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the post
