Liaison
Psychiatry/Psychological Medicine is a specialty within Psychiatry
concerned with assessment and treatment of, as well as research
into, mental health problems among patients who attend general
hospital healthcare services.

The Role of The Executive Committee
· To
provide the College with expert opinion on Liaison Psychiatry.
· To
champion the need for Liaison Psychiatry services in all major
general hospitals and regions throughout Ireland
· To
promote & develop postgraduate training in Liaison
Psychiatry.
· To
encourage and promote research in Liaison Psychiatry.
· To
support the continuing professional development of Liaison
Psychiatrists
The work of the Executive Committee
· The
Executive Committee holds four fixed Business meetings per year.
Two of these are audio-conferences (January and September) and two
are round table (April and November).
· Further
audio-conferences are held on demand.
·
Executive Committee Members participate in various College
committees and working groups.
· The
Executive Committee may co-opt additional individuals in order to
facilitate the work of the Faculty for a defined time period.
· The
Executive Committee will, when developing policy and position
papers, liaise with other Faculties where relevant.
Current Faculty Activities
The faculty are currently (November 2009)
preparing 2 draft position papers for consideration by Council on
the following:
· Mental
Health services and the Emergency Department
· Alcohol
