CPsychI & ICGP Joint Forum on Mental Health

To improve communication and liaison between primary & secondary care in mental health with ultimate goal of improving care & service to service users.
The forum has worked on a number of joint projects since its inception in 2009 one of which was the development of a guidance document on the Referral of patients with depression to Specialist Mental Health Services (Oct 2011) which is published on both College’s websites and was launched to members of both.

The aims of the document for GP s are:

  • To recognise depression in primary care
  • To manage mild, moderate and severe depression within primary care within a structured framework
  • To involve specialist mental health teams, including crisis teams, in the management of severe, treatment resistant, atypical and recurrent depression and for those at significant risk.
