Psychiatry? Your
Questions Answered.
Venue: Royal Irish Academy, 19
Dawson
Street, Dublin 2
To mark World Mental Health Day on Friday October
10th, the Irish College of Psychiatrists held a free
public event. “Psychiatry? Your Questions
Answered” which offered members of the public an
opportunity to hear their questions about psychiatry answered by a
panel of consultant psychiatrists, outside of the usual
hospital or clinical setting.
Dr John Bowman, broadcaster
and historian, chaired the evening. Dr. Consilia
Walsh, Chairman of the Irish College of Psychiatrists,
gave a brief address on the stigma associated with psychiatric
illness – and the detrimental effect this can have on a recovering
patient and family. Pre-submitted questions on psychiatry
from members of the public were answered and discussed on the
evening.
It was an interesting and informative evening
for all, and we hope it will offer a new slant on psychiatry to
members of the public.
