Postgraduate Training

Having just taken up the position as Dean of Education for the College, I am delighted to welcomProfessor Greg Swanwick, Head of Postgraduate Traininge you to the Postgraduate Training section of the College website.  This section provides information and help to those qualified doctors seeking to undertake specialist training in psychiatry, medical students and doctors in training considering it and for the general public.

The College of Psychiatrists of Ireland (CPsychI) is responsible for all aspects of postgraduate training in psychiatry in Ireland.  It aims to provide the best possible training for qualified doctors at both basic and higher ‘Specialist’ level in psychiatry.

Training occurs in two ‘specialist ‘stages - Basic Specialist Training (BST) followed by Higher Specialist Training (HST). Satisfactory completion of Specialist Training confers eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Division of the Medical Register maintained by the Medical Council.

I look forward to working with you in further developing psychiatric training as a rewarding experience for all.

Information on training courses for BST and HST can be found on the College's Virtual Learning Environment - Moodle.  Details of how to access Moodle can be found here.
